I want to tell you about the equipment I carry with me while travelling.
For many years I have wandered wherever the path has chosen to lead me. I have followed quiet forest trails, rested beside peaceful rivers, crossed flower-filled meadows and watched countless sunsets from places I had never seen before.
Living on the road has taught me that every possession should have a purpose. Anything too heavy, too delicate or seldom used only makes the journey more difficult.
Everything I carry helps me live safely, comfortably and simply beneath the open sky.
This is what travels with me every day.
My Clothing
You will see me wearing a few different outfits.
I wear practical clothing designed for walking long distances, climbing rocky hillsides and moving comfortably through forests.
Soft greens, weathered browns and gentle earth tones help me blend naturally into woodland and rural landscapes. My clothing is durable, comfortable and easy to repair, allowing it to serve me well through every season.
Fashion has never interested me as much as reliability.
My Travelling Cape
One of my most trusted possessions is my durable brown hooded travelling cape.
It shields me from cold winds, unexpected rain and the chill that settles over the forest after sunset. When travelling beneath thick woodland canopies, the hood keeps falling leaves and light showers from slowing my journey.
On particularly cold nights, I wrap it tightly around myself for extra warmth, and when the weather is pleasant, it rolls neatly beneath my bedroll on top of my backpack.
It has travelled almost as many miles as I have.
My Backpack
Everything I own fits inside one sturdy leather backpack.
It carries my clothing, food, cooking supplies and the small comforts that make life on the road possible. Though worn by years of travel, it remains dependable, comfortable and strong.
Every mark upon its leather tells the story of another place I have explored.
My Bedroll
A good night's sleep makes every journey easier.
My bedroll allows me to rest comfortably whether I sleep beneath ancient trees, beside a quiet beach, among wildflowers or beneath the roof of a welcoming tavern.
Home is often nothing more than wherever I choose to unroll it.
My Water Container
Fresh water is something I never take for granted.
Whenever I discover a clear spring or flowing creek, I refill my water container before continuing my journey. Carrying enough water gives me the freedom to travel safely between places without unnecessary worry.
My Cooking Pot and Utensils
A single cooking pot is enough for nearly every meal I prepare.
It has simmered countless soups, warmed herbal teas and cooked simple meals over campfires throughout my travels.
Alongside it, I carry only a sturdy wooden spoon and a small eating knife.
Simple meals shared with nature are often the most satisfying.
Cord, Cloth and Repair Kit
Life on the road teaches that repairing something is almost always better than replacing it.
A length of cord, spare cloth, strong thread and a few simple tools have repaired clothing, patched my backpack, secured shelters and solved more problems than I can remember.
The smallest tools often prove to be the most valuable.
Herb Pouches
As I travel, I carefully gather herbs, berries and useful plants.
Several small leather pouches keep them organised and protected until I need them for cooking, herbal teas or simple remedies.
I always leave enough behind for nature to continue thriving.
My Leather Journal
Perhaps the most precious thing I carry is my small leather-covered journal.
Its weathered pages hold sketches of unfamiliar plants, notes about useful herbs, directions to beautiful places, observations about wildlife and memories from the many people I have met along the road.
Whenever I discover something worth remembering, it finds its way into these pages.
One day, perhaps long after my journeys have ended, this little journal will tell the story of the life I chose to live.
My Survival Knife
Despite its name, my survival knife is simply a dependable everyday tool.
It prepares food, cuts cord, shapes wood, gathers kindling, repairs equipment and helps with countless ordinary tasks around camp.
A well-cared-for tool deserves respect, and this one has faithfully served me for many years.
Why I Carry So Little
Everything I own must justify the space it occupies in my backpack.
Travelling lightly allows me to walk farther, climb higher and follow unexpected paths without being burdened by unnecessary possessions.
I have discovered that freedom is rarely found in owning more.
Sometimes it is found in needing less.
