Welcome beneath the trees
I have something special that is close to my heart.
I have spent countless days following the winding trails beneath the trees.. I have crossed flower-filled meadows, rested beneath ancient trees, listened to birds greet each sunrise and watched countless seasons quietly pass beneath the woodland canopy.
Most people see the forest as a place of trees, rivers and wildlife.
They are right.
But they are only seeing part of its story.
The forest is also home to remarkable creatures that rarely reveal themselves to hurried travellers. They are not monsters waiting in the shadows, nor magical beings seeking glory. They are gentle neighbours who have quietly cared for these woodlands long before I first set foot upon their winding paths.
Every creature has its own purpose.
Some encourage flowers to bloom.
Some watch over ancient trees.
Some help forests recover after storms.
Others guide woodland animals, scatter seeds or welcome the nourishing rains.
Over many years I have earned the trust of a few of these extraordinary friends. Today I would like to introduce them to you.
Perhaps one day, if you walk softly, listen carefully and treat every living thing with kindness, the forest may decide you are ready to meet one as well.
My Forest Friends
Luminelle
Forest Lightkeeper
Tiny and graceful, the Luminelle is often the first hidden creature people dream of meeting. Barely twenty centimetres tall, she glides upon four leaf-shaped wings that shimmer in the morning sunlight. Her clothing grows naturally from petals, fresh leaves and flowering vines, making her appear as though she has blossomed from the forest itself.
She spends her days tending woodland flowers, carrying pollen between blossoms while butterflies and bees peacefully gather around her. Wherever a Luminelle lingers, the forest feels brighter, calmer and wonderfully alive. She trusts only those who move slowly and treat nature with respect, making every encounter a treasured gift.
Briarwhisp
Sylvan Pathkeeper

The Briarwhisp quietly wanders forgotten woodland trails, leaving gentle pathways through vines and undergrowth without harming a single living plant. Moss, ivy and tiny flowers grow naturally across its graceful body, making it almost invisible among ancient forests.
Birds, rabbits and foxes often follow nearby, knowing they are safe in its peaceful company. Whenever I meet a Briarwhisp, I slow my own footsteps, for it reminds me that every worthwhile journey is meant to be enjoyed rather than hurried.
Glowfern
Luminescent Grazer
As daylight fades, the Glowfern awakens with a soft emerald glow that gently lights the forest floor. It feeds only upon fallen leaves and ageing plants, helping create space for fresh ferns and young woodland growth.
Where a Glowfern has rested, new green life often appears within days. Quiet evenings spent watching these gentle grazers have taught me that even the smallest acts of care can slowly transform an entire forest.
Hollowkin
Canopy Songkeeper
Hollowkin make their homes inside the hollow trunks of towering ancient trees. Their cheerful songs drift through the woodland every morning, lifting the spirits of birds, squirrels and countless smaller creatures beginning a new day.
Though shy, they possess endless curiosity and enjoy quietly watching travellers from hidden branches above. I often hear their melodies long before I ever catch a glimpse of one smiling among the leaves.
Mossback
Ancient Woodland Wanderer

| Walking beside Mossback always reminds me that a gentle heart can carry an entire forest. Wherever it wanders, birds, butterflies and growing plants travel together in perfect harmony. |
The Mossback is among the oldest creatures I have ever encountered. Slow, patient and incredibly gentle, it carries an entire miniature garden across its broad back. Mosses, wildflowers, mushrooms and tiny insects travel wherever it goes.
Many woodland creatures rest safely upon its living forest, while birds build nests among the greenery it carries. Watching a Mossback reminds me that strength is often measured not by speed, but by the life we support around us.
Petalwing
Forest Bloombearer
Petalwings dance joyfully above meadows from the first days of spring until autumn's gentle arrival. Their translucent wings sparkle with colours that change as sunlight passes through them, creating brief flashes of pinks, golds and soft greens.
As they visit flowers, they help forests bloom with astonishing beauty. Whenever I find a meadow filled with vibrant blossoms, I always wonder how many Petalwings quietly worked there before I arrived.
Barkrunner
Arboreal Sporekeeper
![]() |
| I can never follow a Barkrunner for long. It races through the highest branches with such effortless grace that even the birds seem eager to join its woodland adventure. |
Fast, playful and endlessly curious, Barkrunners spend almost their entire lives high among ancient branches. Their nimble hands and feet allow them to leap effortlessly between towering trees where few creatures can follow.
As they travel, they unknowingly spread beneficial spores, helping old forests remain healthy for generations. They are mischievous friends who often watch me from above before vanishing with cheerful laughter into the canopy.
Silver Antler
Moonlit Wayfinder
![]() |
| Whenever I meet Silver Antler beneath the full moon, the whole forest seems to fall silent. Its gentle light turns the darkest night into a place of peace, wonder and quiet hope. |
Few sights are more breathtaking than seeing a Silver Antler beneath a full moon. Its elegant silver coat reflects the moonlight while magnificent antlers glow with a gentle silvery radiance.
They quietly guide lost woodland animals back to safety and are said to appear only to those whose hearts remain free from greed or anger. Meeting one is a memory I shall always treasure.
Stonepaw Forager
Silent Woodland Gatherer
![]() |
Stonepaw Foragers spend their days collecting seeds, nuts and berries throughout the forest. Rather than storing everything for themselves, they unknowingly scatter countless seeds wherever they travel.
Many young trees begin their lives thanks to these hardworking little creatures. Their quiet dedication reminds me that tomorrow's forests are often planted through today's unnoticed acts of kindness.
Mistleaper
Mistbound Forest Walker
The Mistleaper is rarely seen except during cool mornings when gentle mist settles beneath ancient trees. Graceful and almost silent, it moves with remarkable elegance through the woodland before disappearing again as sunlight grows stronger.
Whenever I glimpse one among drifting morning mist, the entire forest seems suspended between dream and reality. It is a reminder that not every beautiful moment is meant to last forever.
Rainsong Keeper
Raincaller Guardian
Long before the first raindrops begin to fall, the deep, comforting songs of the Rainsong Keeper echo through the forest. Their gentle voices seem to welcome nourishing rain that refreshes streams, flowers and towering trees alike.
Many woodland creatures gather peacefully whenever their songs begin, almost as though they understand the refreshing gift that is soon to arrive. I have learned never to fear the rain after listening to their beautiful chorus.
Twigkin
Canopy Woodland Folk
Twigkin are clever little woodland folk who spend their lives high among the branches of ancient forests. Agile climbers with quick smiles and endless curiosity, they build tiny homes hidden within hollow limbs, woven from twigs, bark and fresh leaves.
Although playful, they deeply respect every living thing around them. They often watch travellers from above, deciding quietly whether someone deserves to know they exist. Those fortunate enough to earn a Twigkin's friendship soon discover that no guide knows the forest better.
Every Forest Has Its Secrets
Whenever someone asks me how I discovered these remarkable creatures, I always give the same answer.
I never went searching for them.
Instead, I learned to slow my footsteps, listen to birdsong, admire wildflowers and appreciate the quiet beauty that surrounds every woodland path.
Little by little, the forest introduced me to friends I never imagined existed.
Perhaps these creatures have always been there, waiting patiently for someone willing to notice.
If you ever find yourself wandering beneath ancient trees, pause for a moment.
Listen to the breeze.
Watch the flowers.
Smile at the birds.
You never know who may be quietly watching from the branches above or hovering gently among the blossoms.
